Using various devices and modes of communication to teach the concept in my Science lesson

I know as teacher we use various devices, strategies and means of communication to provide concept in our daily teaching. It’s not that I have consciously used such integration to update my blog and receive countless comments.

I as teacher, I always ensure that my lesson of teaching is convinced and understood by the learners. My objectives are met and retained for many years by using in each and every daily’s life.

In view of this update in my blog, I have taught class V science on the topic “How Electricity is generated in Bhutan”. To provide concept on electricity itself was difficult for students. Therefore, I have decided to use video lessons explaining the overall concept of electricity generation. The pictures of hydro power stations in Bhutan to show the places used for this very purpose.

I have also used power point presentations to discuss various terms and statements explaining about this concept.

My overall impression: I felt satisfied and contended of integrating different devices to provide the very vague concept. This helped me in serving the purpose of showing different parts and devices that is used to generate electricity.
I am happy that  I could achieve my lesson objectives.

My Reflection: Integrating Power point, video lesson, Brainstorming methods through charts & worksheets to provide concept in my Science Lesson

I have used brainstorming method to teach the students on the lesson topic “living and non-living things” by displaying chart, power point, showing video lesson and worksheets to assess the learning in class V. As recommended by (Khan, 2013) “Modern teaching is characterized by interaction, communication and participation. It is believed that an interactive class must incorporate participation in order to assure learner centered teaching and better results. Brainstorming through the above aids as ICT tools is one of the popular techniques of participative approach to decision making which can be employed in a pedagogic situation as well and Brainstorming can encourage learners to think more freely and innovatively than if they were doing a more restricted and routine classroom situation. It allows learners to remember what they know, and to teach each other. It is a dynamic and stimulating way to lead learners into a topic”.  In the process of teaching, through brainstorming I have realized that it is one of the effective methods to make children learn and understand the concept.
The process of brainstorming method and with the use of power point, video lesson and worksheets helps children in retaining their memory in learning the concepts and process of lesson through asking questions at the first phase, listing and mapping of ideas and followed by group pitching or presenting the overall view of the lesson. It is as stated by (Khan, 2013), “Brainstorming is a tool to direct teacher and students in the process  that uses a relaxed, informal atmosphere combined with lateral thinking to solve problems. In spite of its importance in the generation of new ideas, many students do not have enough training to use it”. I liked the method to teach science in class V for the first time. As I have gone through the manual and teachers’ guide of the particular class. I have built my motivation to take up science class as another professional subject in my teaching career.
I have even focused on catering my teaching services to all kinds of multiple intelligence by following the learning cycle of teaching science like exploration, inquiry, acquisition, discovery and application. I did use the learning cycle procedures before, during and after teaching to confirm my abilities of justice and concept building.
I have enjoyed integrating certain ICT aids with purpose and mandate since it enabled and triggered students’ learning as never happened before in my teaching career. The technique of integration with certain teaching pedagogy like concept mapping and brainstorming helped me to keep students’ active throughout the lesson and made children to interpret their understanding of concept, however, it is felt important to integrate the teaching by using aids which is useful for capturing the information.
